Cultural Enrichment

Join us for Bonny Slope Elementary School’s first ever culture Night!

This family-friendly BSCO event will be on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 6-8PM at the school Cafeteria/Gym. It’s a fun-filled evening for students and families to share, learn and celebrate the diverse cultures of our community. The event will showcase cultures representing different aspects of their cultures, such as traditions, clothes, festivals, languages, art, game, and food. We welcome and encourage all cultures to this event.

What is culture night?

Families will create a poster-board “booth” that highlights something in their culture they’d like to share. There will be different booths representing different cultures. At the event, students can “travel around the world” to collect stamps on their passports in order to redeem for a small prize.  Culture Night is FREE and open to all students and families.  Please remember, this is not a drop off event; students must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Check out what our neighbors at Sato Elementary School did for their Culture Night to get ideas!

How can my student participate?

Culture Booth:

Team up with other participants representing the same country to contribute to your booth.  Each booth is provided with a trifold poster board to display information about your culture. This can include heritage, traditions, clothing, festivals, languages, art, decor, food, and more! Make your booth interactive by including culturally related activities such as small crafts and games stations. You may also offer food items that are iconic to your cultural cuisine. Please keep in mind, for health and safety reasons, all food items cannot be home-made. They need to be pre-packaged or store/restaurant bought.  BSCO will provide a reimbursement budget for each represented culture that can be used for booth expenses.

Cultural Performance:

We can have a select number of performances on the stage throughout the night.  If you have a cultural dance or performance you would like to share, don’t hesitate to sign up!
