Please join us to thank volunteers, hear feedback from our first year and brainstorm next year's activities. With both Spanish and PYP funding at Bonny Slope being impacted by the Beaverton School District budget cuts, now more than ever we need your help to ensure this committee can increase cultural awareness and inclusion in the school community. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there--Thursday June 6th at 6:30 in library.

Questions? Please email cultural@bonnyslopebsco.org

National Mix it Up Day - Tuesday 10/23

Tuesday October 23 is National Mix it Up Day!

This national movement encourages students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch. It’s a simple act with profound implications that can promote healthy and welcoming school environments.

The Cultural Richness Committee will post signs in the cafeteria about this FUN day, but we also ask teachers and parents to encourage students to MIX IT UP- Oct 23rd! To learn more please visit this webpage and watch the video: https://www.tolerance.org/mix-it-up

Cultural Enrichment Committee Introduces "Bobcat Explorers" Program

The Cultural Enrichment team needs your help.

Screen Shot 2018-06-20 at 11.41.27 AM.png

After this summer vacation, Bonny Slope's Cultural Enrichment Committee would love to hear about your family's experiences with other cultures, lands or ethnicities. Whether you are near or far, away on vacation or at home on a staycation, please share your summer with us.

Information was sent home in your student's last Friday folder, including a Bobcat Explorer Logo card. Make sure you take the card with you on your trip or when you are out and about. We’d like you to include the Bobcat Explorer Logo card in a photograph you take this summer.

Think about the photo opportunity when visiting a monument or location, eating exotic food at a local food cart, or enjoying a folklore performance. You might be discovering something or somewhere new, or a place of great historical importance.

Think about a fun fact too, like how food is prepared or how people greet each other in a different manner. Of course, you can be in the photograph, but don’t have to be.

Send your photographs to cultural@bonnyslopebsco.org. Add your name, the place where you took the photograph, together with your fun fact or what you have seen or learned. We will be collecting all the emails from our Bonny Slope Bobcat Explorers and sharing them on our Explorer Wall in school next year.

The project will run the full 18/19 school year! No worries if you can't make it this summer, but do have amazing plans for the holidays.

Let’s make it an exciting exploration!

May 1st Cultural Richness Meeting

Dear Bonny Slope Community,

Our Cultural Richness Committee has inventoried all your thoughts and ideas and was able to slowly weave in a couple of suggestions.  I consider this an exploration year.   Our goal in the coming years is to implement a few more events based on immediate needs and wants, as well as volunteers who are ready and willing to make it all possible.  With the recent resignation of our Deputy Superintendent, integrating cultural awareness and appreciation into our school community is imperative.  Shining a light and celebrating diversity can only enhance the richness of who we are, and how we’d like to be acknowledged as a proud community of many races and cultures.

With the 2018-19 school year on the horizon, you are invited to join our Cultural Richness Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 1st at 7:00 pm in our library.  We will have focused areas of discussions based on what was previously discussed this past year.    At this meeting we want to continue to hear your ideas, as well as start  formulating smaller more manageable subcommittees that will see each event, activity or need through its fruition.  If you are able to join us, please RSVP cultural@bonnyslopebsco.org.

If you are NOT able to attend but would still like to join a cultural subcommittee, we will send out a Sign-Up Genius after our May 1st meeting where you can sign up and still take part in next year’s events.

We look forward to hearing your brilliant visionary ideas of how we can continue to culturally enrich our school community
