Want to get involved? Consider becoming a Committee Lead in 2019/2020!

Updated May 18, 2019

Even though the "C" in BSCO stands for Community, it could also easily stand for Committee because without the efforts of our Committee Leads and Committee volunteers, BSCO would not be able to provide the amazing variety of enriching activities that our students have come to love and the resources on which our school has come to rely.

Please consider volunteering your time by becoming a Committee Lead.  It's a great way to meet other parents, get more involved with the school, and share a skill or talent.

Don't be intimidated by the commitment.  Time commitments vary!  We can find a way for you to get involved in a way that works best for your interests and bandwidth.

Don't want to go it alone? Get a few of your BBFFs (Best BonnySlope Forever Friends) together and tag team the job. The more the merrier!!

The positions that are open for 2019/2020 include:

  • Auction - Chair this Annual Spring Fundraiser

  • Carnival - Be part of the team that plans the annual Bonny Slope Carnival in the spring!

  • Community Garden - Assemble a team of green thumbs to help the students learn about how to tend to the organic garden on the Bonny Slope campus.

  • Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) - Coordinate the reading program for 4th & 5th graders.

Co-Leads Needed - this means there is already a lead, but they need a wing-man or woman!

  • Science Night - Encourage student projects and coordinate vendors to excite our kiddos about science.

  • Yearbook- Preserve these amazing memories forever in our annual yearbook celebrating each school year.

Please contact BSCO's Director of Committees, Katie Kammer, at committees@bonnyslopebsco.org if you have any questions about a particular position or are interested in leading one of these amazing opportunities.

For more information on each committee please see the BSCO Volunteer Handbook.

Awards presented for running specific distances include: wristband, backpack charms or keychains, a medal and lots of recognition! Kids will be recognized as a group at assembly’s throughout the year.

What if there is Bad Weather?

The Bobcat Trail Club will follow the school’s decision on weather.  If it is not raining we will be on the track, otherwise we will be under the covered play area.

Please contact Mara or Angie with any questions at trailclub@bonnyslopebsco.org

Thank you Committee Leads!

We appreciate every volunteer at Bonny Slope, but we’d like to give a special 'thank you' to the following parents for their committee leadership this year.  BSCO Committee Leads make such an impact on our community, your efforts have not gone unnoticed.  Bravo and thank you!

Marathon Kids and Bobcat Trail Club Joining Together To Encourage Kids To Run!

MK and BTC White-1.jpg

Bonny Slope Elementary is fortunate to announce a new partnership with Marathon Kids! BSE has received a grant from Marathon Kids, partnered with Nike, to provide running clubs in elementary schools. Marathon Kids and Nike’s goal is to encourage kids to run at least 4 marathons during their running club while providing exclusive Nike rewards at the end of each marathon for the participants.
The grant we received provides these exclusive Nike rewards for up to 150 students who run 4 marathons during running club!
Currently, Bonny Slope Elementary already has our amazing Bobcat Trail Club, lead by Kelly Matsushima and Joyce Hsu. Every student at BSE can come participate in BTC by running or walking and track their laps towards marathons on Monday and Thursday mornings from 8 -8:25AM.
Since BSE already has the BTC, we are joining Marathon Kids and BTC together for the rest of this year. Students will still receive all their BTC rewards, but once they finish 4 cards (One Marathon) at BTC they automatically become a Marathon Kids participant and start to receive the additional exclusive Nike rewards.

BTC is still in need of volunteers from 8-8:25 AM on Monday and Thursday mornings especially when it is raining and we have to run undercover. With the partnership with Marathon Kids and Nike, we would love to have any Nike employee parents come out on those mornings. All are welcome to come volunteer and encourage our kids to run.

Kick Off the Running Season: Bobcat Trail Club's First Run on Thursday

This Thursday, September 22nd, is the first Bobcat Trail Club run, from 8am to 8:25am. Please come join us.  It’s a great chance to meet other awesome Bonny Slope parents and help out your students.

Bobcat Trail Running Club Kicks Off Thursday, Sep 22nd

Please note, we've changed our opening and running dates. Please come join our opening day on Thursday 9/22 to run with music. Everyone gets a prize!!! Parents and teachers are welcome to run together with the children. It's also a great chance to meet other parents!

What is Bobcat Trail Club?

The Bobcat Trail Club is a running/walking program for Bonny Slope Elementary students and staff, sponsored by your generous BSCO donations.  The goal of the Bobcat Trail Club is to encourage fitness in a fun way!  Kids will run/walk laps on the track and accumulate the laps completed.  We will be running on the track when the weather is nice and under the covered area when it's not.

When does it happen?

Kids can run/walk before school on Monday and Thursdays from 8:00-8:25.  We’ll kick off on September 22th Thursday at 8:00 am.  Teachers and family members are welcome and encouraged to run with the kids.  The program will run through May 2017.

Who is a member of Bobcat Trail Club?

All kids are automatically signed up!  Once you start running on Monday or Thursday you have started the journey to the marathon distance.

What do participants get?

Each child will be given a card with 40 numbers on it.  As laps are completed, volunteers will punch one number for each lap ran. Awards will be given at different distance levels achieved.  Runners will earn some great prizes this year including wrist bands, charms, t-shirts and more!
