Cultural Richness at Jog-a-Thon

Dear Bonny Slope community,

We are excited that Jog-A-Thon is approaching. Just like last year, each classroom was assigned a country/region to represent. All countries represented have at least one Bonny Slope student that was born in that country.

The Cultural Committee has partnered with Jog-A-Thon to use this opportunity to expose students to information about the country/region and its culture. We think it will help to develop awareness and understanding about the many cultural backgrounds in our school. For the students born in those countries, we hope it would bring a positive experience of sharing their background and culture.

We are looking for 2 types of volunteers:

  • to help with specific tasks, such as organizing flags, cultural material for each country, and more

  • we are also looking for volunteer speakers to come to the classrooms to give a brief presentation about the country during the week of Jog-A-Thon. We are looking for someone born in those countries, or a person who lived there, or someone with a lot of knowledge about the country and its culture. We are planning on a 5 to 15-minute presentation, whichever is appropriate for the grade.

Our volunteering opportunities are listed on this SignUp Genius:
