BSCO Board Meeting Snapshot August 28, 2017

In an effort to boost transparency between the BSCO Board and the BSE community, a monthly snapshot will be published of the various topics discussed at the Board's monthly meetings.  These are not official minutes or a detailed description, but rather a window into the discussion and voting results of the Board.

August Meeting-- 8/28/2017

The new 2017-18 board kicked off the year to discuss various BSCO topics and confirm their meeting dates and goals for the year.  Kelly Kinzer, Member at Large, was unable to attend.  The Board discussed new goals related to building the Volunteer pipeline, smarter giving and STEAM with continued commitment to last year’s goals of over-communication, transparency and levity.

The August playdates were well attended by both new and current families (close to 100 people each week) and there was agreement by the board to establish this valuable activity as a permanent budget item.  Installation of the wall-mounted projector, funded by last year’s budget, is complete and looks amazing.  Elia Freedman, Tech Adviser, is moving forward with the classroom projector project with a couple projectors ordered for initial trial.

Ashish Gupta, President, asked the Board to review his materials for an upcoming staff-wide BSCO presentation.  The focus will be on BSCO’s new budget and teacher support.

Jog-a-thon preparation is well underway with a fun international/olympic theme planned.  Assistance with Pledgestar sign-up will be available at Thursday’s BTS picnic and informational handouts to go home in the first Friday folders.  Options for an auction fundraiser for this year is still being discussed, given the lack of any event chairs.  Bridge the gap, while unnecessary in prior years, may be needed in the absence of an auction event.

Josh Resch, Communications, shared that the BSCO newsletter will be back on 9/14 and will continue on Thursdays opposite the Paw Prints.  Josh is also working to publish a simple guide to assist new and existing families with the steps to connecting to the community and various communications.

Melissa Gatchell, new Treasurer for 2017-18, shared the budget.  New this year is a spends tracking document for teachers to view/monitor their spends throughout the year which is expected to give teachers access to real-time information and reduce a number of inquiries over email.

Reminder from Jenna Dornblaser and DeDe Osborne, Directors of Volunteers, for all volunteers to re-specify volunteer interests in the mVP system, so that respective committee leads know who to contact with volunteer opportunities.  Last year’s preferences do NOT carry forward.  Two volunteer orientation sessions (one morning on 9/19/one evening TBD) planned to welcome and guide new volunteers.  All welcome to coffee on 9/5, 8:30-9:30 in the BSE library.

Holly VanderPloeg, Director of Committees, has scheduled a meet & greet for Committee leads for this Thursday, 6:30-8pm at Erin’s wine cellar.  Geography Club check days are moving from Wednesdays to Thursdays.  With the help of Ryan Putney, Bobcat spirit wear will be available through Gear up sports with the option of free pick up from the school office.  Both Beaverton Clothes closet (9/13) and Walk to School day (10/4) are dates to remember in the first few weeks of school starting.
