Superhero Staff Appreciation Week Soars at BSE

BSE’s annual Staff Appreciation Week took on super-human strength, as parents and volunteers paid tribute to our awesome, superhero teachers and staff.

BSCO’s Staff Appreciation leads, Bonnie Davis and Amber Connell, planned last week’s events and prizes circulating around a Superhero theme.  A city-scape was mounted in the teacher’s lounge, including a superhero cut-out of every teacher and staff member.
Activities included Monday’s ice cream bar, complete with parent-donated ice cream, toppings, and sauces, Wednesday’s catered crepe lunch from Kat’s Crepes, and Friday’s Brunch for Lunch extravaganza, with parent-made quiches, muffins and other breakfast specialities.  Each staff member was also given six raffle tickets to be placed in various raffle jars, allowing a few lucky teachers to take home a fun gift card.

Students were encouraged to join the fun by bringing in handmade cards on Tuesday, as well as a flower for their teacher on Thursday.  Class coordinators helped support the overall effort by providing a vase outside the classroom and creating a superhero cut-out of each teacher.

Vice principal, Jennie Knapp, was awed by the efforts, stating, “We are the luckiest staff ever!  Everyone loved finding our superhero pictures in the staff room.  I heard many people enjoying the amazing desserts, delicious crepes, the bananas and yogurt, the brunch lunch, and especially the thank you cards from kiddos.  Thank You!  Thank You!  Thank You!”

Principal Janet Maza concurred, adding, “I would like to personally thank everyone for the best staff appreciation week ever!  I have never known a community as giving as the one at Bonny Slope.”

A massive shout-out is due to Bonnie Davis, Amber Connell and the parents comprising the Staff Appreciation committee.  Additional gratitude is due to Bales Marketplace and Grand Central Bakery for their generous donations, as well as Ellen Rothery for securing Columbia Store Employee Passes for the raffle.  This week was made possible by individual parents’ food contributions, as well as BSCO’s Staff Appreciation budget.  Parents interested in joining this committee next year should update their preferences in their MvP profile.
