Can you believe it’s been almost a month since school started? Neither can Ali Montelongo, our new assistant principal at Bonny Slope Elementary. “It’s been a busy, yet productive start to the school year,” she said. “I’ve enjoyed my first few weeks at Bonny Slope. It’s been great meeting our Bobcats – I’ve particularly enjoyed how excited the students were to start the year. I’ve also been impressed with the strong sense of community we have here, and how welcoming everyone’s been!”

With over 15 years in education under her belt, Ali’s equipped to bring a wealth of great ideas to BSE. So far, she’s finding her days busy, but rewarding. She’s got her sights set on establishing relationships and programs that help our elementary school students learn how to make the right choices. And, she’s already making a positive impact by lending guidance to our next generation of leaders with the recently launched Bobcat Diplomats program.

The Bobcat Diplomats offer our fifth grade students an awesome opportunity to flex their developing leadership skills by getting involved in programs that help our school run well – things like supporting student drop-off / pick-up, organizing the lost and found, and assisting teachers. And this has just been in the first weeks of the program!  Ali shared that the Bobcat Diplomats can look forward to reading to Kinder Buddies, helping out with school beautification projects and assisting with the numerous evening events held at BSE. She would also like to work with the fifth graders to gain their insight into how they can Take Action in their school, as part of the PYP program.

Originally from Newberg (before it was a cool wine country ☺), Ali got her Bachelor’s Degree from University of Oregon (Go Ducks!), and her Master’s Degree from Pacific University. Additionally, she attended Portland State University and got her administrative license. On the weekends, she likes to spend time with friends and family. Ali loves playing cards, reading, going to Ducks games, enjoying the outdoors and relaxing with her two dogs, Lucille (Golden Retriever) and Diesel (Black Lab).

Welcome to BSE, Ali! We’re glad you’re here!
