Parent Ed Evenings Provide Valuable Parenting Tools

BSCO’s first two Parent Education evenings have proven a popular and informative choice for Bonny Slope parents this fall.  Shawn Marshall’s presentation “The Impact of Electronics on the Youth Brain” pulled in nearly 70 community members, packing the library as he walked parents through the physiological and psychological impact screen time and video games have on the developing brain.

This week’s offering, “Parenting a Child with Anxiety” with Dr. Allan Cordova, also proved popular with over 40 attendees.  Dr. Cordova elaborated not only on general anxiety disorder, but also gave parents a tool kit to help them define and evaluate strategies to support their children.  Dr. Cordova’s presentation slideshow can be found here.

BSCO’s Parent Ed evenings will begin again in 2017, with a pair of gender-specific presentations.  “All About Boys” with Howard Hiton will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017.  Kim Demarchi’s presentation, “Raising Daughters” is the following month, scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2017.  Both presentations will be at 7pm in the BSE library.

The Parent Education series is funded through BSCO’s annual budget and your generous BSCO donation.  Questions can be directed to Megan O’Malley Cook at parented@bonnyslopebsco.org.
