No, our President, Hannah Donohue, didn't suddenly get younger. That's Ella Osborne, our special guest speaker at the Winter 2016 Community Meeting. Ella is organizing a fun run at Bonny Slope Elementary School this May 7th, with proceeds going to KEX Kids Fund, which provides kids with free hearing and vision services from start to finish. More to come via this blog and PawPrints.
It was a jam-packed meeting tonight. We officially met Jennie Knapp, Vice Principal and former BSE 5th grade teacher. We got an update on late start/no bus days. We learned about the feedback from the community survey. We learned about our latest grant applications and parent education nights, the next of which is February 3rd. We received updates on Jog-a-Thon ($50,000 raised!), and the latest for Auction, scheduled for April 16. Auction can use donations, plus the student's are working on art projects for auctioning, which needs both materials and classroom volunteers.
We received updates on Book Fair, Monster Mash, Pancake Breakfast, Art Literature, OBOB, Geography Club, Science Enrichment, BEST and Science Fair, which is moving to April 28th. We spent most of our technology budget, purchasing 60 Chromebooks for 5th grade, which will now have one computer per student with a combination of Chromebooks and Macbooks.
Our treasurer report included some changes in budget and an update on the reserve. If all goes as planned, BSCO will have funds above our desired reserve. The Board's goal is to find worthy projects to spend down this savings during this and next school year. A final figure will be known following Auction in April.
