Thank you, Bonny Slope.
Our 8th Annual Jog-A-Thon (JAT) was a HUGE success, exceeding all expectations. The event raised over $50,000, crushing this year’s goal and earning a solid 156% increase over last year’s event. Even more impressive, enough students participated to earn the all-school Dance Party, complete with live DJ, coming to BSE this January!
Traditionally held in the spring, the Jog-A-Thon was moved to the fall for the 2015-2016 school year. It was a mindful and strategic move on behalf of the BSCO Board to separate the two major school fundraisers – JAT and the Bonny Slope Auction scheduled for April 16, 2016.
Given the short turn-around time to plan this year’s event, the committee leads, Jessica Corcoran and Michelle Huss, implemented new tactics to encourage fundraising and participation, including a booth at the Back To School Picnic where iPads were ready and equipped for parents to enroll their children on FirstGiving.
“This has been a great adventure and a learning process for sure,” said Huss. “At the end of the day, the biggest impact – and most important to Jessica and me – was the camaraderie and school spirit the event generated among both students and staff.”
As a student body, the kids worked together as a team to earn an All School Dance Party and the staff “put together their own dance the morning of the Jog-A-Thon that really showcased what spirit means,” she said.
Of course the BSCO Board was also curious, yet very hopeful as to how the event would play out. According to Ava Palmquist, Vice President of Fundraising, “Anytime a major fundraiser gets moved on the calendar, there is a fear that it may not perform as expected. And although I'm not at all surprised at the end result, I do find myself constantly thankful for the dedication of our parent community in ensuring that every student at Bonny Slope continues to benefit from all that BSCO provides. Bonny Slope families step up and get the job done, every time.”
BSCO supports three major fundraisers during the school year, Jog-A-Thon in the fall, Auction in the winter/spring and Write-a-Check near the end of the year. Write-a-Check is only held if additional funds are needed. BSCO supports major school-wide technology, art, science and social events, a complete breakdown can be found here.
“Mrs. Maza had a vision of community for the Jog-A-Thon that was novel. Watching that play out in spirit and teamwork was a reward in and of itself,” Huss concluded.
Much appreciation to our amazing students and families for their dedication and fundraising efforts! We are proud of our Bonny Slope Community!
