Hello Bonny Slope Families,
I hope you all are having a wonderful and safe end to summer. I can hardly believe it is that time of year again! I want to first take the time to introduce myself as your new Bonny Slope Community Organization (BSCO) President. My family has been a part of Bonny Slope since the school opened its doors in 2008 and I have served in a variety of volunteer roles from classroom help to committee lead, and most recently as BSCO Director of Committees. I look forward to serving as President and pledge to make 2013/14 a fun and productive year!
Here are a few things we have in store for this year:
100% Family Participation Campaign
For BSCO to be effective and truly representative of the school, it is essential to have involvement from as many
parents as possible. As we enter our sixth year of operation we are seeking 100% Participation by asking all families to pledge to volunteer at least one hour at Bonny Slope. There are so many ways you can help and BSCO appreciates all volunteers, as do our teachers and staff. Keep in mind that by volunteering, you will get to enjoy interacting with the kids, become friends with other parents, and accomplish things that truly make a difference.
Introducing the Fewer than Five Program
We recognize that many families don’t volunteer because their time is limited and they don’t know how to make
an impact. If this sounds like you, then we encourage you to be a risk taker and sign up for the new Fewer than Five program. This program was designed for volunteers that can commit to fewer than five hours over the course of the year. All you need to do is register as a volunteer on HelpCounter (link from http://bonnyslopebsco.org) and
indicate you are interested in Fewer than Five. A BSCO leader will work behind the scenes to identify ways you
can make a difference in an hour or two and will contact you regarding short term opportunities throughout the
year, including tasks that can be done outside of school hours and from home. Whether you have 30 minutes or a
couple of hours, your ideas, time and talents are truly valued!
New Time & Guest Speakers at BSCO Meetings
I am excited to announce a few changes to the BSCO Community Meetings this year. We recognize many of our
families’ evenings are jam-packed with activities so we are alternating meeting times between 2-3pm and 7-8pm. Additionally BSCO will be hosting a guest speaker at each community meeting. The speaker will lead a 20 minute discussion on a parenting related topic and the remaining 40 minutes will be used to discuss BSCO business. I will e-mail an agenda to all registered volunteers before each meeting. To ensure you receive this and other important information, please register as a volunteer on HelpCounter (link from http://bonnyslopebsco.org).
BSCO is on Facebook
Please like us on Facebook! BSCO is using Facebook to push timely information and reminders to families as well as collect feedback. The BSCO website will continue to be used for more formal communications and includes a link to the Facebook page.
BSCO supports many important programs at Bonny Slope including Art Literacy, Science Classes & Fair, Carnival,
